Sports betting has gone mainstream in Canada over the past several years. It’s now common to see betting lines and spreads discussed on popular sports shows, and top leagues such as the NHL are also embracing betting. Any negative stigma related to sports betting has disappeared and it’s now the norm for British Columbia residents to place bets online.
If you’re on this page it likely means you’re ready to place a bet. Just follow the simple three step guide outlined below to place your bet at one of our three recommended betting sites for Canadians. I’ll dive more into betting in British Columbia after the getting started guide.

Sports Betting at British Columbia Casinos
Sports betting is currently not available at British Columbia casinos.
The casinos in BC offer slots, table games, poker rooms, and horse race betting, but they are not allowed to take sports bets at this time.
PlayNow.com (BC Online Sportsbook)
British Columbia does have it’s own online sportsbook that is operated by the British Columbia Lottery Corporation. The sportsbook is available through PlayNow.com and is exclusive to BC residents. The betting lines are fair when compared to our recommended online betting sites (which is a positive compared to government operated betting options in other provinces).
British Columbia Horse Racing Tracks
- Fraser Downs, Surrey
- Hastings Racecourse, Vancouver
Hastings Racecourse is the premier horse racing facility in British Columbia. It is located at Hastings Park in Vancouver where it hosts live racing through the spring, summer and fall months, while offering simulcast racing daily year-round.
Hastings Racecourse hosts BC Cup Day, which includes the notable British Columbia Derby, on the first Monday of August each year.
BC Sports Betting FAQ
Below I will answer a few of the common questions I receive from bettors in British Columbia.
Can I Bet Using Interac?
Yes, all of our recommended betting sites accept Interac for both deposits and withdrawals.
Interac is my favourite banking option for betting online. It’s fast and easy, and there are no associated fees like you sometimes see with credit card deposits.
Can I Bet Using Visa or MasterCard?
Yes, all three of our recommended betting sites listed above accept credit card deposits.
If you deposit via credit card you may have to request a withdrawal via a different method such as bank transfer, Interac, or cheque through the mail.
